THE BASIC CONCEPT BEHIND THE MUSICAL DRAMA “Fabio”
Audiobook and songs joined together in two CDs
+ book (with story and lyrics translated into English)
Why? We already had the chance to work together a few times in the past, between readings of Ivan Senoner’s texts and Tobias Dellago’s and the Secco band’s music. These evenings always had a special flair because of the harmony between the music and the lyrics which fitted in really well with the prose.
Judging by their comments, people were always deeply moved by the power of the music which together with the expressiveness of the stories tinged the literary-musical performances with an amazing atmosphere. Looking back at those evenings, however, we felt that all the presentations (and with them the big effort it takes to organize such an evening) were blown away by the wind of forgetfulness. A live performance is after all a production that is only alive while it is being performed. “Verba volant, scripta manent,” as the Romans already said.
So we thought it would be a great idea to create something that would be preserved in the future. From that came the idea of putting together a musical drama, recording it on two CDs and including a “libretto”. It’s a current topic, one that people don’t like talking about, but that is also connected to themes like hope and courage.
What? An innovative musical drama titled “Fabio”, combined with songs (new as well as already known ones) by Tobias Dellago and the Secco band. The title is not only the protagonist’s name in the story but also a reference to the topic that is the central theme – ph(f)_o_b_i_a. As you can see, Fabio is an anagram of the word “phobia” in Ladin. The songs are performed by Dellago in a new, “unplugged” adaptation and the texts are read out loud by Senoner.
A creation that is not meant to be only an audiobook or a CD of songs, but a project that combines literature and music into a harmonious ensemble: a composition to listen to, together with thoughts and tuneful melodies.
How? The text and the integrated songs (17 in all) were recorded onto a double CD and printed in a book. The text and the lyrics have also been translated into English to give the project more internationality.
When? The first presentation of the project will take place on 29th November 2014 at the “Tublà da Nives” in Selva. There will also be more live presentations later, where you will also be able to buy copies of the CDs and the book.
